Our Story
Discover our story and what makes us different.
When the January 2025 LA wildfires destroyed more than 16,000 structures in under 48 hours, the gap was impossible to ignore.
Homeowners were searching for answers — which detector actually performs in wildfire smoke, which vent covers stop ember intrusion, which air purifier is worth the money — and finding mostly product listings, manufacturer marketing, and outdated government pamphlets. Nobody was doing the independent, research-backed work this audience deserved.
SmokeDefenseHQ was built to fill that gap.
We are an independent editorial resource — not an installation company, not a manufacturer, and not a government agency. We review, compare, and explain the full spectrum of smoke and wildfire defense: from smart smoke detectors and CO alarms to whole-home hardening systems, HEPA air filtration, and evacuation planning. Every recommendation is grounded in National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) codes, EPA air quality data, Underwriters Laboratories (UL) certification records, and peer-reviewed research.
Our audience is the wildland-urban interface (WUI) homeowner who has been non-renewed by their insurer. The parent buying an air purifier after their child’s asthma flared during smoke season. The property manager trying to go beyond minimum code compliance. They deserve more than a listicle. They deserve a command center.
Who We Are
An independent command center for the communities that wildfire doesn’t ignore.
SmokeDefenseHQ is an independent digital publication covering smoke detection, air quality defense, and wildfire home protection. We cite every source, disclose every affiliate relationship, and recommend only what we would stake our own home’s safety on. Our editorial standards are built on NFPA codes, EPA air quality data, UL certification records, and peer-reviewed research — because the stakes are too high for anything less.
